The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it may extend the deadline for H1-B visa registration after some users experienced technical difficulties.
The USCIS launched an electronic registration process for the H1-B visa, which requires basic information about the petitioner and the requested worker. The initial registration period lasts for a minimum of 14 calendar days each fiscal year. However, some users have reported difficulties completing the registration process. In a tweet, the USCIS apologized for any inconvenience and stated that it is working to fix the issue, and will extend the registration deadline. As per the USCIS website, today is the last day of registration.
More than 48,000 prospective petitioners have submitted registrations for the FY 2024 H-1B Cap registration process. Of all eligible registrations, roughly 31% have requested consideration under the advanced degree exemption. USCIS takes into account historical data related to approvals, denials, revocations, and other relevant factors to calculate the number of petitions needed to meet the H-1B cap for a given fiscal year.
To submit an H-1B registration, a $10 fee is required. Registrants or their representatives must pay the non-refundable fee. Prospective petitioners must use a “registrant” account within myUSCIS to submit registrations. Representatives can create an account at any time by using the same kind of account already available to representatives.
The USCIS intends to notify selected registrants by March 31. April 1 is the earliest date that FY 2024 H-1B cap-subject petitions may be filed.
